A vacation for the whole family
Föhr is a family-friendly island. Children of all ages will find a lot to discover here. Enjoy relaxing days at the beach, informative mudflat hikes, romantic horse-drawn carriage rides or a cosy picnic within sight of a mill or a village. Föhr has something to offer to every visitor, whether big or small. We have put together several suggestions for you.
The Schleswig-Holstein Wadden Sea National Park extends over 4,410 square kilometres, making it the largest national park in Germany by far. Over two-thirds of the park's total area is in the sea. Especially in the summer months, a guided mudflat hike from Föhr to Amrum is truly worthwhile. The starting point for the hike is just a few kilometres from our Altes Pastorate at the dyke near Dunsum. The 8-kilometre-long path through the mudflats mostly consists of sand flats. Just before reaching Amrum, you'll wade through a knee to waist deep tidal creek depending on the weather conditions. The unique nature makes this trip especially attractive.
Excursions to the neighbouring island of Amrum or the small Halligen islands are stunningly beautiful. A visit to the banks of seals is also an unforgettable experience. Another popular attraction consists of boat tours on which all sorts of sea creatures are caught in nets and placed in an on-board aquarium. After the passengers have had the opportunity to marvel at the marine animals, they are released back into their underwater habitat.
From a bird's-eye perspective, you can gain beautiful impressions of the charms of the island of Föhr, the neighbouring islands and the sea. You can start your sightseeing flight right from the island's own airfield. For more information, visit www.flugplatz-wyk.de.
Mini-golf and much more
Of course, you can also play miniature golf on the island. Courses are located at the AQUAFÖHR aquatic centre and at the Kliff-Café in Niblum-Goting. At "milk and more" in nearby Klein-Dunsum, you can even play Swingolf and football golf
