Art lovers will enjoy visiting the "Museum Kunst der Westküste" art museum (www.mkdw.de). Located in the town of Alkersum, the museum is home to the painting collection donated by the museum's founder and pharmaceutical entrepreneur Dr. Frederik Paulsen Jr. The collection includes artworks of important Scandinavian and German artists of the 19th and 20th centuries including the works of German impressionists Max Liebermann and Otto H. Engel as well the Expressionists Emil Nolde, Max Beckmann and Edvard Munch. Temporary exhibitions of past and contemporary artists make it worthwhile to visit the museum on repeated occasions.
